Neighbourhood guide

Living in Burquitlam

Burquitlam is a rapidly densifying, transit-oriented neighbourhood in western Coquitlam, transformed by the 2016 opening of Burquitlam Station on the SkyTrain Millennium Line. High-rise towers now cluster around the station along the North Road and Clarke Road corridor.

Location & boundaries

It sits in Coquitlam West along the North Road and Clarke Road corridor, bordering Burnaby to the west, with Austin Heights and Central Coquitlam to the east. Its name is a blend of Burnaby and Coquitlam.

History

Long a modest residential and commercial area at the Burnaby boundary, it became a primary focus for high-density, transit-oriented redevelopment after the Evergreen Extension opened in December 2016.

Lifestyle

The area blends a well-known Korean business district along North Road with a growing high-rise population of commuters and students, given quick access to SFU on nearby Burnaby Mountain.

Housing & property types

New and under-construction high-rise condominiums dominate near the station, alongside remaining older single-family homes and low-rise apartments.

Shopping & dining

North Road is known for its concentration of Korean restaurants, groceries and shops.

Parks & recreation

Trails on Burnaby Mountain and around SFU are a short trip west, and Como Lake is a short distance east.

Getting around

Burquitlam Station on the Millennium Line (Evergreen Extension) sits on Clarke Road, one stop from Lougheed Town Centre; North Road and Clarke Road are the main arteries.

Who it may suit

May suit commuters and students wanting new condos steps from SkyTrain.
