It sits on the north bank of the Fraser River about 65 km east of Vancouver, with the downtown core around 1st Avenue and the Mission City rail and bus hub.

History

The community was established in 1891 and took its name from a mission school; the 1891 swing-span Mission Railway Bridge was for years the only Fraser River crossing in the valley below the Alexandra Bridge, and a Chinatown formed downtown after the 1894 flood.
