Neighbourhood guide

Living in Silverdale

Silverdale is a large, mostly rural planning area in southwest Mission, sometimes called Southwest Mission. Historically farming and logging land, it is now a major long-term growth area under a master plan.

Location & boundaries

It lies west of Mission City along the Fraser River and Lougheed Highway, covering the roughly 3,440-acre Silverdale Comprehensive Planning Area.

History

Its economy was farming, fishing and logging until Fraser Valley suburbanization in the 1960s and 1970s, and it had a notable Italian-Canadian community; the Silverdale Urban Reserve has been discussed since 1966, and a master plan has since been adopted into the Official Community Plan to guide phased growth.

Lifestyle

The area is currently rural and semi-rural, with large properties, but is slated for substantial planned community development.

Housing & property types

Housing today is largely rural properties and acreages, with future master-planned neighbourhoods envisioned.

Parks & recreation

The Fraser River foreshore, Silverdale Creek wetlands and rural trails provide open space.

Getting around

Access is via the Lougheed Highway (Highway 7) corridor west toward Maple Ridge, with regional connections at nearby Mission City.

Who it may suit

May suit those wanting rural or acreage property, or longer-term development land west of Mission.
