Neighbourhood guide

Living in Metrotown

Metrotown is Burnaby's principal downtown and one of Metro Vancouver's densest districts, centred on the region's largest shopping mall and a major SkyTrain station. It has drawn a wave of residential highrise construction around the town centre.

Location & boundaries

It occupies south-central Burnaby along Kingsway and Central Boulevard, west of Deer Lake and immediately east of Central Park.

Housing & property types

A high concentration of condominium and rental highrises has been built around the town centre, with more towers under construction.

Shopping & dining

Metropolis at Metrotown, one of Canada's largest shopping centres with hundreds of stores, is the retail heart, supplemented by additional retail along Kingsway and Central Boulevard.

Parks & recreation

Central Park lies just west, and the Bonsor Recreation Complex offers a pool, ice rink, gymnasium and fitness facilities in the heart of the district.

Getting around

Metrotown Station on the Expo Line, adjacent to the mall on Central Boulevard, is one of the busiest stations in the SkyTrain system.

Attractions & landmarks

Metropolis at Metrotown and the neighbouring Central Park are the area's main draws.

Community facilities

The Bob Prittie Metrotown branch of the Burnaby Public Library, the system's largest, sits with the Civic Square plaza on Willingdon Avenue.

Who it may suit

May suit those wanting a walkable, transit- and shopping-rich highrise district.
