Albion is a growing residential area in southeast Maple Ridge on the north bank of the Fraser River, and is the district's oldest non-Indigenous settlement. It combines newer subdivisions with a long riverfront history.
It lies in southeast Maple Ridge along the Fraser River, around the Albion Fairgrounds and Lougheed Highway, near the Golden Ears Bridge approach and Kanaka Creek.
Originally called East Haney, it was renamed Albion in 1907; early settlers Samuel and Julia Robertson established what is described as the first fruit orchard in British Columbia, and sawmills, canneries and fishboats followed. The Albion Ferry linked the area to Langley from 1957 until the Golden Ears Bridge opened in 2009.
The neighbourhood is family-oriented, with newer subdivisions and year-round events at the fairgrounds.
Housing is predominantly newer detached single-family homes and townhouses.
The Albion Fairgrounds host year-round events, and nearby facilities include Planet Ice, the Golden Ears Winter Club and Kanaka Creek Regional Park.
The area is served by School District 42 (Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows), including Albion Elementary and Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary.
The Lougheed Highway and Golden Ears Bridge provide road connections, with TransLink bus service and the Port Haney West Coast Express station nearby.
May suit families wanting newer detached homes near the river and recreation.
