Living in Albion

Albion is a growing residential area in southeast Maple Ridge on the north bank of the Fraser River, and is the district's oldest non-Indigenous settlement. It combines newer subdivisions with a long riverfront history.

Location & boundaries

It lies in southeast Maple Ridge along the Fraser River, around the Albion Fairgrounds and Lougheed Highway, near the Golden Ears Bridge approach and Kanaka Creek.

History

Originally called East Haney, it was renamed Albion in 1907; early settlers Samuel and Julia Robertson established what is described as the first fruit orchard in British Columbia, and sawmills, canneries and fishboats followed. The Albion Ferry linked the area to Langley from 1957 until the Golden Ears Bridge opened in 2009.
