Fort Langley is a historic riverside village in the north of the Township, widely called the birthplace of British Columbia. Its walkable Glover Road main street is lined with heritage buildings, boutiques, cafes, galleries and museums.

Location & boundaries

It sits in the north Township on the south bank of the Fraser River around Glover Road and 96 Avenue; the Bedford Channel separates the village from McMillan Island, home to the Kwantlen First Nation.

History

The Hudson's Bay Company established Fort Langley as a fur-trading post in 1827 and rebuilt it at its present site in 1839. Governor James Douglas proclaimed the Colony of British Columbia here on November 19, 1858, and the site was designated a national historic site in 1923.
