Lower Lonsdale, nicknamed LoLo, is North Vancouver's waterfront district, a former shipbuilding area redeveloped into a dense, walkable neighbourhood around Lonsdale Quay and The Shipyards.
It sits at the foot of Lonsdale Avenue on Burrard Inlet, in the City of North Vancouver, immediately south of Central Lonsdale.
The Lonsdale name traces to landowner Arthur Pemberton Heywood-Lonsdale; the Wallace Shipyards, later Burrard Dry Dock and Versatile Pacific, opened at the foot of Lonsdale in 1906 and built vessels through the war years. The SeaBus began in 1977, the Lonsdale Quay Market opened in 1986, and the redeveloped Shipyards District opened in 2018.
It has an urban, walkable, waterfront character popular with younger residents and visitors.
Housing is dominated by mid- and high-rise condominiums and apartments, with some townhouses.
The Lonsdale Quay Market anchors the area, joined by shops, restaurants and breweries around The Shipyards.
The Shipyards District waterfront offers piers, boardwalks, a public plaza with seasonal skating, and access to the Spirit Trail.
Served by the North Vancouver School District (SD44).
Lonsdale Quay is the North Shore's transit hub, with the SeaBus to downtown Vancouver's Waterfront, the R2 Marine Drive RapidBus and numerous bus routes.
Lonsdale Quay, The Shipyards District and the waterfront Polygon Gallery are the district's landmarks.
May suit those wanting walkable waterfront condo living with fast transit downtown.
