Elgin is a heritage, semi-rural area of South Surrey along the Nicomekl River, best known for Elgin Heritage Park and the restored Stewart Farm.
Location & boundaries
On the banks of the Nicomekl River in South Surrey, near Crescent Beach and about a 10-minute drive from White Rock.
History
Land here was pre-empted by Samuel Hardy in the 1880s, and John Stewart built the Victorian Stewart Farm farmhouse in 1894. The Stewart family ran a hay farm for decades and helped build the local school, church, community hall and river dykes of the historic community of Elgin.
Parks & recreation
Elgin Heritage Park contains the heritage Stewart Farm, a nature trail of more than 3 km, and tidal Nicomekl River wetlands; Wards Marina is nearby.
