Neighbourhood guide

Living in Downtown

Downtown Vancouver is the city's dense commercial and residential core on the downtown peninsula, home to office towers, shopping streets and high-rise condominiums. Robson, Granville and Georgia and the surrounding streets form a compact, highly walkable centre.

Location & boundaries

It occupies the downtown peninsula, bounded by the harbour and Coal Harbour to the north, False Creek and Yaletown to the south, and the West End to the west; Gastown and Chinatown sit at its northeast edge.

Shopping & dining

Robson Street is the marquee retail strip, with additional shopping and entertainment along the pedestrian-oriented section of Granville Street and around Georgia and Burrard.

Getting around

It is the hub of the transit system: Waterfront station connects the Expo Line, Canada Line, SeaBus and West Coast Express, while Burrard, Granville, Vancouver City Centre and Stadium–Chinatown stations serve the core and the Canada Line runs south under Granville toward Richmond and YVR.

Attractions & landmarks

Landmarks include the Vancouver Art Gallery, the shops of Robson Street, and BC Place and Rogers Arena at the southeast edge.

Who it may suit

It may suit those wanting maximum walkability, transit access and high-rise living in the middle of the city.
