Hillhurst is an inner-city community on the north bank of the Bow River just northwest of downtown, home to much of the Kensington shopping district.

Location & boundaries

It sits in northwest Calgary, bounded by 8th Avenue NW to the north, 10th Street NW to the east, the Bow River to the south and around 18th Street NW to the west. It adjoins Sunnyside, West Hillhurst, Hounsfield Heights/Briar Hill and Rosedale.

History

One of Calgary's older communities, it saw its first homesteads in the 1880s and was formally established in the early 1900s.
