Neighbourhood guide

Living in Oakridge

Oakridge is a residential neighbourhood on Vancouver's south-central west side, centred on the Cambie Street corridor and the major Oakridge Park redevelopment at 41st and Cambie. It has long been a hub for the city's Jewish community and has a large Chinese-Canadian population.

Location & boundaries

It sits between West 41st Avenue to the north and West 57th Avenue to the south, bounded roughly by Oak Street to the west and Ontario Street to the east, with the Canada Line and Cambie Street running through its centre. Marpole lies to the south and Riley Park to the north.

History

The neighbourhood took shape as a post-war residential district and gained a retail focus when the Oakridge shopping centre opened in the late 1950s. The Canada Line arrived along Cambie Street in 2009, and the mall site is now being rebuilt as the large mixed-use Oakridge Park, which opened its first phase in 2026.

Lifestyle

The area is culturally diverse, serving as a centre for the Jewish community with synagogues and specialty shops, alongside a substantial Chinese-Canadian population.

Housing & property types

Single-family homes line the side streets, with new condominium and townhouse density rising along the Cambie Corridor.

Shopping & dining

Oakridge Park, the redeveloped former Oakridge Centre at 41st and Cambie, is the retail anchor, evolving into a mixed-use complex with shops, offices and public space.

Parks & recreation

The Oakridge Park redevelopment includes a large rooftop park, and the Langara Golf Course lies just to the south.

Schools

The Vancouver School Board serves the area, and Langara College sits at West 49th Avenue and Ontario Street on the neighbourhood's southern edge.

Getting around

The Canada Line serves Oakridge with Oakridge–41st Avenue and Langara–49th Avenue stations along Cambie Street, completed in 2009.

Community facilities

A community centre and library are part of the Oakridge Park development, and Langara College anchors the southern edge.

Who it may suit

May suit buyers wanting new transit-oriented condominiums and families valuing schools and shopping on the Cambie Corridor.
