History

The community was established in 1995 by Carma Developers (now Brookfield Residential) and planned with input from new-urbanist architect Andres Duany, and it has been recognized by the Urban Land Institute among notable master-planned communities.

Lifestyle

It is walkable and family-oriented, organized into villages such as Elgin, Prestwick and Inverness with front porches and historically styled facades.

Housing & property types

Housing is a planned mix of single-family homes, townhouses and apartments.

Shopping & dining

High Street is a street-oriented retail main street anchored by a Sobeys grocery, while the adjacent South Trail Crossing adds big-box retailers including Walmart.

Parks & recreation

McKenzie Towne Hall provides gathering and event space, and the community has ponds, paved pathways, parks, a splash park, an outdoor rink and a skate park.

Getting around

Bus service includes a park-and-ride connecting to rapid transit toward downtown, with major road access via Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail.
